AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ABILITY ON APPLYING TRANSPOSITION AND MODULATION PROCEDURE IN TRANSLATION
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of Research
Translation  is  one  of  important  thing  in  teaching  learning english  proccess  as  foreign   language  in  Indonesia.    As  a  country that uses english as a foreign language, needs skills to understand clearly in communication of both source language (SL) and target language (TL). The translator‟s aim is to get the  message accross as  accurately  as  possible,  to  avoid  misunderstanding  and misinterpretation  on  the  part  of  target  language  (TL)  readers.
However,  the  transmission  of  a  message  is  complex  process  and ensuring  accurate  in  interpretation  is  difficult  task.  To  be  a  good translator  one  need  good  knowledge  in  translation  field  and  must be proficient in both language ”A  good  translator  must  have  sufficient  knowledge  in  the  area  of the  translated  materials  and  must  be  proficient  in  both languages”(Priyono,Teflin journal, 2005: 224).“Translation is the replacement  of  meaning  from  a  source  language  into  a  target language”(Mildred L. Larson). “In  the  future  we  may  be  able  to speak  more  scientifically  about  translating  when  we  know  more about  the  ways  in  which  the  brain  manipulates  information  and transfers  concepts  from  one  language  to  another.Without  such information  about  neural  processes  we  cannot  really  understand what takes place in our brains. Some  persons,  however,  seem  to  be unusually  skilled  in  manipulating  words,  phrases,  and  clauses.  In a  technical  sense  a  fully  adequate  theory  of  translation  would consist of a group of general and coherent principles in matching the semantic contens of verbal utterances”( Eguene Nida. Journal : vol:  1,  no:  11,  2006).  “Translation consists in reproducing in the receptor  language  the  closest  natural  equivalent  of  the  source language  message,  first  in  meaning  and  secondly  in  terms  of style.”( Eguene Nida: 1995: 02).
From  the  definition  above,  the  researcher  can  say  that    translation  has  two  important  things;  the  meaning  (sense)  and   style(form).  The translator needs translation procedure to get good result  in translation proccess.  “procedures  are  the  technical  devices  which  are  used  to  transfer the  meaning  of  a  text  in  one  language  into  a  text  in  another language.(Martono: 1995: 24)”
In  this  research  the  researcher  use  two  procedures  in translation  as  object  of  the  study,  they  are  from  Newmark translation procedures are transposition and????????
