IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ ABILITY TO TRANSLATE THROUGH SENTENCE COMPONENT IDENTIFICATION (PRE EXPERIMENTAL)


CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

A.  Background
English as a global language has been used by more than a half population in the world. Beside language as a role of knowledge, technology and art. English can be used as a tool for trading, economy, international connection social cultural, and education, and carrier development.
As matter of those students sometime regard that in learning English, the students’ difficulty in translating is caused by low mastery of their vocabulary and grammar that is lack background and lack of understanding culture To overcome this; they must increase their vocabulary.
Vocabulary is an important element of language that must be mastered by students, because ability to read and comprehend English writing, speaking, reading and listening is partly determined by their vocabulary. One of the techniques for building up students’ vocabulary is translating approach. (Amrin 1997: 4).
Interpreting is a type of translation. often called oral translation, which refer to oral communication situation in which one person speaks in the source language, and interpreter process this input and procedure output in a second language and third person listens to the target language version, D. Saleskovich say that: “Translation is considered as an endeavor to establish linguistic equivalent, whereas interpreting aims at integral communication of meaning”. (Brislin, ED, 1969: 92). Translating is really a language skill, which is quite different from all the skills, because it is a specialized skill, which demands the ability to switch one language code to another. It neither develops nor demonstrates the basic skills of listening, speaking, and writing.
In translating, we should understanding what the source language replace or
“Reproducing the message into the target language. In reproducing written text, wse need to identify the component of the sentence. Identifying the sentence component always more to translate the message.
From the explanation above, the writer assumes that translating skills in learning English is necessary, especially to enhance the student vocabulary, therefore, they will have an opportunity during the teaching and????????????????????
