The use of crossword puzzle in teaching vocabulary

ABSTRACT
Irmalasari, 2012.  The use of crossword puzzle in teaching vocabulary to the first year student of SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Makassar. Thesis of English Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Makassar Muhammadiyah University. Under the Supervision of H. Muis Badulu, MS and Abd. Waris.

            This thesis aimed to find out the development of the students’ vocabulary through crossword puzzle in terms noun and verb at the first year students’ of SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Makassar.
The method of this research was Classroom Action Research hat consisted of two cycles. One cycle consisted of four meetings. It means that there were eight meetings for two cycles. This classroom action research was done at the first grade of SMA Muhammadiyah Makassar, the sample of the research consisted of 26 students. The instrument wee vocabulary test, it was used to  measure the students achievement in using Noun and Verb.
           

 
The findings of the research were the students’ vocabulary achievement in cycle I, the data obtain from the test were analyzed into percentage. Mean score of Noun in cycle I was  56.15 and verb 56.76, meanwhile mean score of Noun in cycle II were 75.57 and verb 73.92.
